Fortune (Caution expletives)
Fortune favours no-one
Or maybe just not me
The lives I’ve lead Â
The skins I’ve shed
And still fortune hasn’t found me
Maybe she’s out there waiting
A doting wife on the wings
I feel I’ve done all I can
To get that girl to sing
But she doesn’t even see me
Like the crush of a lovesick teen
I’ve always been invisible to her
Inside my joyless scene
Fortune favours the brave
How much courage could do you need?
I faced down enemy  fire
Then with solemn pyre
Laid my comrades into the green
And still she is not here, nowhere to be seen
So I tried my luck with karma
Ancient beliefs to the test
But I found it to be empty
As was all the rest
I stood up for society
Moral outrage on the buses
“Let the old girl sit down!”
The teenage gang scowled
Then all gathered round
They were not for the turning
They beat me to a mess
Where was karma at that moment?
Was she off to confess?
About how she and favour had abandoned me
Leaving me to my own devices
“He’ll be fine, just give him time”
Then destroyed me with their vices
No....I’m wrong
Favour favours the selfish
The psychopathic CEO
Turning resource into profits
Who cares where the forest goes
Maybe its a bit cheeky
To think of it this way
I am typing up this poem
And there is some food downstairs
A lot of others have nothing
Raped daughters and scars bare
So maybe I am a little fortunate
But I’ve never been aware
No! Â FUCK YOU FORTUNE!
AND YOU LUCK!
I’ve never seen your faces
I’ve give up waiting for you
To turn up in strange places
From now on its me
Just me
Just me and no-one else
I’m turning into a psycho
Putting my heart upon the shelf
And turning out to face you
So you can no longer fuck me up my arse
I’ll sit here in my darkness
And spit in your half-full glass
When luck and favour abandoned me
They took with them my hope
And left me nothing but this poetry
To quantify my slippery slope
