Freedom Of Thought

Demonizing opinion and thought using the law
Is like declawing a cat or clipping the wings
Of a bird for the sake of someone else’s comfort
Not all views will be nice, but neither is life,
In a real democracy, everyone should be free to speak,
That doesn’t mean everyone else has to agree
But at least no one has been censored or ostracized
As people our lives are different, our ideas reflect that,
Some people are good, some people are evil,
most are in-between, and that is how it has always been
But if we lose the ability to communicate, to debate,
And worst of all, the ability to think for ourselves,
Then we will become stones sinking to the bottom of water
Never seeing light because we allowed ourselves
To bask in the shadows of one thought, one system,
For too long, ignorance will drown us in the end,
If we continue to pretend that other opinions don’t exist.
