Frozen Tears

White capped mountains look over our plains and winters freeze
Treaded from the south to the north a trail colder for our warriors
No more, we go empty handed, no food, no means, but the spirit leads
Native hearts that believe in the lands be free
Many lost, many starved but too many lay behind
Indian Chief they call me, now I sit down in these cold valleys
Bitten by the enemy's frostbite, no longer I struggle, I am humble
For my father of the earth and sky be with me as
I close my eyes and cross my arms, my feet
My breath exhausts my bodies heat, as the cold hits my face
Tears fall down my cheeks now too become frozen in time
As I sit here calmly, quietly, I hear the snowfall from the trees
Now I fall into a deep, deep sleep and all memories I keep
My brave faith has won, this now my victory, I sacrifice as I freeze
No longer hungry for I have found my time to die with pride, I do not hide
These furs around me, leather hides, pelts of strength they will be with me by and by
Now I fall deeper and deeper to sleep like the snow covered mountains it keeps me safe
My spirit free it flies and released into the native lands as my tears are now frozen
I hunger no more

Hi Nancy
This is very poignant
I have a great affinity for the Native Americans.
And have in fact written several poems of their plight
This one is so true in its depth
How can one return a wrong done by history.
Well written Nancy
Jude
Thanks Jude- We can never return our wrong doing, only keep writing about them................
Nancy
Awe! Susan - thank you so much for sharing all of your blood kin and ancestors, I love all of it and I too have the same in me, on my grandmothers side.
Love to write about good things and native American people are mostly good to the soul!
