Gateway to the Unknown

The stones etched with names from long ago in the cemetery of the forgotten
Where hardly a sole enters the gate to the unknown, where it whispers
In the wind, the words unscramble in your head, the stories of the dead
The seasons change but the graves never leave, they keeping rotting away
With the worms of the earth, crawling in the hollows of the eyes, where the locket
Of a young woman, now sunken into the ribcage, the hair on her head now just white patches on an empty skull
Grey, blackened fingernails that have fallen off, lay down by the once flesh, now skeletal stub
Crumbled lace, faded patten shoes, and the dried up red rose she held in her hand
The grave next to hers, will be for her beloved husband, once he arrives and takes this bed
Once again, they will become one, a love meant to be, where the wings of the angels
Will take them into their hands, and life will be eternal, no more haunting dreams
The wind blows from the east, and the head rests in the north, empty is the night
Though the owl lurks in the tree, and watches the moon, as the bats dive for mosquitos
Awakening sounds, the cricket croak, the silence breaks, with the coyote crying
Moaning of the undead, worlds of many colors, the cultures and ancestors of many
Lost in this gateway, searching for their loved ones, forgiving are the trees, keeping them safe, for the sake
Of the Unknown, let the hands of time of the face of the clock, never stop ticking
