G.I. Is His Name

My uncle fought at Normandy
But never told a soul
My father joined the Navy
But was sad he missed the war
My brother was a Marine
And he has terrible dreams
My nephew was an Army bomb specialist
And he hasn’t been the same…
A G.I. is an honored moniker
There is no color, no separate states
For when they bleed, it’s all the same
Blood is life, and freedom has a cost
This country does them an injustice
By not taking them into our hearts
They fight for loved ones living
They fight, regardless the price
I love them for their service
For daring the dangerous field
For running into fire
For securing sailing seas
On this thin piece of parchment
I honor them with a poem
For time spent serving America,
Their ungracious and unjust home
In honor of ALL the men and women who join and become G.I.’s for our country…THANK YOU. You are not forgotten.

Hello Rebecca...
Many will be able to relate to this...
My Dad and his 5 brothers all served...
My Dad was declared 100% disabled by the government later in life...
Being in and out of the V.A. He received $63.00 a month for his disability check...
Growing up I watched his disability get worse and worse the older he got...
It was very sad to see him deteriorate throughout my life...
Fortunately, he was able to release his pain when he died in 2004...2 months to the day after my mother passed away...
Great write!
Thank you for sharing...
Hugs...

Hello Sparrow. Thank you for stopping by and reading this piece. I've been sitting on it for a couple of months waiting for Vet's day. My uncle passed away a few years ago and that was when we heard about his wartime experience. We always knew he had been there, but he never talked about it with us.
Our Vets are so underappreciated it makes me ashamed. Thank you for sharing your story about your father with me. I'm sorry for your loss. One of my favorite pictures of my dad is in his Naval uniform. He too is sadly gone from my life, but his patriotism lives on in us. Blessings hon, and thank you again. Hugs, Rebecca
Beautiful write Rebecca....nobody seems to honour them once they are out of service...I feel your pain...Hugs...Lots of love
Hello Rose, thank you for stopping in to share my ink. My brother is heavily involved in Vet's activities and keeps me up to date on what is going on in the community. I try to get involved when I can. They are amazing people and their stories completely unique. Hugs and Blessings, Rebecca
Amen Rebecca

Thank you Lisa. :) Blessings and Hugs.
Hi Dear Rebecca,
Young men losing their lives in strange foreign lands. Young men losing their limbs to strange foreign cowards. Young men who return home with shattered hearts and tortured souls. All this, they give to defend their ungracious and unjust home.
Hugs, Peace and Love,
xox Larry
Amen.... Hi Larry thank you for reading. :) Hugs Rebecca

Hi Jeff. Yes this time of year always makes it harder to turn away from the soldiers. The holidays, the cold, the hungry... I just want to have them all over to my house for Turkey and hot cocoa. Thanks for stopping in hon. Hugs.
