Gnaw My Foot Off

gnawing my own foot off
to get out off this bear trap
and happy to do it
if only it were that easy
at least there would be a way out
captured by illness
taken by surprise
struggling to get out of the trappings
of this mental illness
knowing there is no cure
no end, except THAT end
the end to end all ends
if you try that end
you end up in the hospital
if you gnaw your foot off you end up in the hospital too
but you go home healed
when you're mentally ill you never go home healed
I think I'd chose the bear trap
