Gray to Black
Gray to Black
-
The wispy gray mass
Advancing, Reaching, Engulfing
Muting the soft colors of eve
Tyranny over the twilight of night
Broken, no, detached along edges
Stretching amain, seeking to censor
Pastel pinks illuminate the sea above
As I whisper parting words the mass engulfs
It’s nearly surrounding us now, entombing
Spectators look west to enjoy our sun’s defeat
-
The mass cannot absorb all
Above it’s blockade one could confuse the sky of day
Our moon peeking from his dark corner
Coming to peer upon the madness below
Just as he fears darkness, the lights begin to flicker
The Arno unveiled by lamp, smiling upward
A romance made impossible by law
Abyss of sky an infinite distance
The night granting our lovers some respite
Moon reflecting at her every curve
-
Our nightly spectacle adorned by moonlight
What if I’m in love too
Affection for day and night alike
Now a black mass; Jealous for attention
It has stretched too far in envy
Attempting a heist on our love for sun and moon
These minutes of transition prove opportunistic
Oh black mass you ugly thing
Spending all you have in search of validation
Maybe you aren’t so bad after all
-
Seeking attention, affirmation
Desperate for the love of others
Once gray, now a darkened black mass
