Poem -

Gutter

Poignant, show stopping
Media brain washing frenzy.
You believe everything you see?
And you're calling me crazy?
Daily, I see the struggle
On the streets, in the cold
They asking for change whilst you
Sneer at them for "being so bold"
I'm told, about the harsh lives
Sitting on that pavement
Doubling it up as a mattress
For the long nights, endangered
In anger, they turn to escapism
Drugs or alcohol become prey
Until hope and joy
Become further and further away
Today, saw a girl, alone,  no home
I've seen her fade into shadow
Gaunt, taught, chapped, broke
Her hopes are at an all time low
NO! this cannot stand
And I'll gladly congratulate you
For giving them a few coins
But there's so much more you!
Can do, don't stop at stopping
Donate, fund raise in anyway
That fund you had for a rainy day
Give it away!
Repay a kindness, pay it forward
Don't blush about it
There's no need to be awkward
If I could afford it
I'd put that girl up for a week
Pay for her hotel
To get a good sleep
Then something to eat
She needs it more than me
And we are all part of humanity
All born free

Though we all end up slaves
In the end
Whether to the man or the streets

Yes we all end up slaves
In the end
You just got to choose your defeat

Yes we all end up slaves
In the end
So we need to help each other out

Because we all end up slaves
In the end
So what's your story about?

Yes we all end up slaves
In the end
No matter how much we atone.

We are all born slaves in the end
Doesnt matter what's written on your stone.
