Half & Half

Siblings

Half & Half

There once was a time when I had someone to depend on,

They could barely tell us apart that was our sacred bond,

I was jealous from the jump because you were the better one,

I did everything right and yet this is the outcome,

People looked past me,

So I passed it and you made the three,

All cheered you on when that shot you took came from me,

Always in your shadow leaving me with no light to glow,

Surrounded by siblings,

Suffocating the space for growth,

I had to go and get it on my own,

But the streets were cold yet I still called it home,

Spent 14 years without saying a word,

You taught me a lesson and here’s what I’ve learned,

When your the last of 4 no one cares anymore,

We still don’t speak now so it’s the same as before.

Holy Crap DVON!!....this is intense.....a VERY compelling poetic narrative that is well crafted and has a strong sense of rhythmic timing to it....and the story itself is fascinating and will be easily relatable to many who read it.......families are tricky things and often are the most cruel of encounters!.....whether this be fact or fiction it is one thing for sure.......Intriguing!!......ALL STARS!!.....well done dear poet brother!!.......LOVE & ROCKETS!!.....T xo  :  )

Hey Tony long time no see!! Sorry for the long hiatus I’ve been going through a lot but it’s good to hear from you. I’m glad you liked the read I was holding that feeing in for a long time and it was about time to let it out. I’ll try and be more consistent as time passes. 💯💯

Being Me

Awww....this is from the heart! Raw, painful and very, real. I am sorry to hear you had such an unhappy time with your family. I truly am. I have 4 kids and they are all loved very much. They are all different and I am proud of each of them. None of them are in each others shadow, they all shine. And while I have kids (now grown up) who are loved unconditionally, I know that there are many out there who are not. It always does my head in to try and fathom the reason why some mothers (and fathers) cannot, or will not, love their children. Every child deserves to be loved and to feel safe in their family unit so my heart goes out to those that are not and don't.  Bless you Dvon! You should be proud of the person you have become. This is a hard hitting, heart wrenching write but you've written it and written it well. Well done 👏👏👏👏 x

Thank you for sharing that with me Being Me! I’m glad that there are parents who do care for every one of their children regardless of personal feelings or age differences. I got all the attention from my mom but I needed a father figure to look up to and just didn’t get it at all. I have so much built up that the only coping mechanism I have is to experience as much pain as possible until that’s the only feeling that’s left or write it out rather than act out violently like my dad would. When I have my children I will never treat them the way me and my wife’s parents treated us. Thank you so much for your kind words.
