Handsome Lad

Handsome lad, merrily asmiling,
Emerald eyes dance beguiling.
Strong hands so tender meek,
Gently wipes tears on rosy cheek.
Sacred promise of safeguard return,
Swiftly stifling needless concern.
Tides of change have begun,
Sowing seeds of chaos to come.
My lad with brave valiant heart,
Anarchy torn us e'ermore apart.
A heavy heart eternally mourns,
War's briar has callous steel thorns.
Fair thee well my handsome lad,
Celtic lament forevermore sad.
My handsome lover laid to rest,
On sacred hills pious saints blessed.

Well written. ..Lisa
You really do have a way of evoking the tales of the Ancient World. It's partly due to your approach to and use of language in thatΒ stark, inimitable way of yours; and partly to the atmosphere you imbue each with...and that's ALL you, Lisa.
For the record, this piece puts me in mind of Emer, singing a lament over the cairn (grave) of her dead husband:Β the great Gaelic hero, Cu Chulainn.
I can hear the ancient echoes of the Ulster cycle in this beautifully evocative poem.
