The Harmattan

The rain has stopped
The ground writhe in thirst
As it gets not even a water drop
The scorching sun at its worst
Sinking her fangs on us all
The lawns no longer grassy
The leaves turn a golden brown
As mother nature bakes them in her oven, classic
Such a crunchy sound you hear when you walk around
The sweaters, mufflers, gloves and socks closely to keep
They were all kept faraway when it was warm
They are to give warmth when the sun goes to sleep
And the wind blows her fury on us all
Sometimes the sun hides her smiles
And it becomes really foggy
You walk or drive for miles
And it feels like you are gropping
The doctors welcome more visitors
As people sneeze and cough
Flu too is not left out as it becomes our visitor
The eyes are usually reddish and swollen by the dust
If you are not careful
Your palms and feet get cracked
Your lip balm always accessible
Or your lips get chapped
As we transpose from one season to another
Reminding us of mother nature's influence yet further
We realize a supreme being is in control like a father
Welcome harmattan a season like no other!

Love this write Rose. I was a bit confused at first because I wasn't sure if you were writing about drought, or autumn, but when I looked up the titleΒ it made sense.
Β It is amazing, the planet, the weather, and how different the landscape is. Yet it is comforting to know that it is all in harmony and guided by a powerful hand. Your words were so descriptive, I felt the dryness and the wind. A truly wonderful write. Thanks for showing me something new hon. Such a pleasure. Hugs and love, Rebecca
We only have two seasons in this part of the world the rainy and harmattan (dry)... The harmattan starts by October and ends in March...it's Β windy, dry and sunny....it can get really hot in the afternoon then cold in the evening and morning...or sometimes the temperature drops and it gets cold in the afternoon...by December to January it would get very cold and sometimes foggy...we have neither autumn, fall, winter nor spring we only read about them
I'm glad my write showed you something new...thanks for stopping by and your wonderful words...Hugs and love...Rose
sweet Rose beautifully penned . My favorite part was "As we transpose from one season to another

Hi Sweet Rose,
I have read about this Harmattan, the dry, devastating Winter's winds of West Africa. Β The fortunate can ready themselves for its arrival. Β The less fortunate can only writhe in its fury. Β The colds, the flu, the virus runs rampant. Β So much disease. Β So little panacea. Β Please God, our "Man For All Seasons", shield us from this most brutal of all seasons.
Hugs, Peace and Love,
xox Larry
