A Haunted House

She’s like a haunted house,
a place filled with ghosts
and bad memories.
Dust settles on the floor
and coats the shelves.
The doors remain closed
and rooms unexplored.
The beds aren’t made,
but no one has visited.
The books are closed
their content all but forgotten.
The windows are locked
trapping in stale air.
And the gates are chained
keeping the past in,
and locking out the living.
