The Midnight Shadow

I'd wake up in the night,
To have a bit of a fright.
By seeing a tall, slim figure,
Outlined by the moons light.
Hovering towards my door,
He stayed a few second more.
My heart pounded faster,
What was he waiting for?
Eventually he'd float back,
To the other end of the house.
That's when I'd start to run,
Was he looking for his spouse?
The next night when I awoke,
I had a nightmare before he spoke.
I froze upon what he said,
Did he really want me dead?
Two men were by my bed,
That was all one had said.
I froze, unable to breathe,
Thinking this is the end of me.
Every night I ran to dad,
Every night he got so mad.
He always said no one's there,
He knew there was, he didn't care.
It was since then I'd kept my light on,
Thinking it would go away but I was wrong.
I woke up the next night looking at the ceiling,
Where the man looked over me, as if I were appealing.
The next night when I awoke he was floating around my room,
As if he were an inspector brought to work by the moon.
I stayed silent and still, praying for him to go,
And still to do this day, what he wanted I don't know.
