Her

Bright lights, warmth, and gentle breezes,
Uplifting, joyful, and carefree.
Like a slug moving along,
A tortoise peaking out of his shell,
A baby critter learning to walk,
I take this world in.
A few steps and I stumble and fall
With no way back up and no one to call.
So I close my eyes and enter my mind,
Where my shadow beckons me to leave this world behind.
Her cold fingers grab mine and lead me
Further and further away.
She darkens my eyes and blackens my heart
Before she pushes me away.
She pushes me back out to the sun,
Just to let me burn;
To make me crawl and fend for myself.
It takes me seasons to gain some strength,
Then I'm back up in the world,
Almost human,
Blending in.
But this I know well,
No matter where I dwell,
I will fall back in
Her arms again.
