Her Alabaster Box

Every man in the room looked at her with disgust

some of them were furious at their own lust

she had been the one who brought shame to the town

one of those ill famed women who for every man, opened her gown

her sin was public, her errors were known

and nobody cared of the bitter tears she'd sown

she was not supposed to be there

she hadn't even wiped her face and brushed her hair

but she heard He'd be here

the Holy Prophet, the Savior, the Seer

she dared not shift her eyes from the soiled floor

as she rushed passed judging eyes at the Rabbi's door

breathing in and out, heart drumming in her throat

she suddenly wished she had brought along her coat

she wondered as she walked, what He would say to her

she looked up but her tears made her sight, a blur

and when she finally reached Him

she fell to His precious feet, daring not to look at Him

She knelt and exhaled deeply

and brought out her only treasure that smelt so sweetly

with trembling hands and a pounding heart

she reached out and touched His dirty feet

gently she unstrapped His sandals

and shuddered at the sound of her bangles

and as if a hidden door in her eyes had burst

her sacred drops of bitterness, shame and pain, began to flow

as it fell, it landed on his muddy feet

tear by tear, drop by drop

she then began to wash His feet

rubbing it gently as she continued to weep

she stopped a moment to release the clasp in her hair

Raven black tresses cascaded down her stooping shoulders

as she felt exposed and bare

taking His feet into her calloused hands she dried them

with the glory God has given her

thick, wavy locks that dried up the liquid that had flowed from her eyes

then slowly she opened her box of treasure

it would be deemed insignificant

if it were to be compared to something of greater measure

but she took that precious incense and poured it over his feet

it filled the place with an aroma so beautiful and sweet

No one could understand what she did that day

but it was a moment she had longed for

an opportunity to plead her lost cause

and ask forgiveness for all her wrongs

A daring act birthed from a desperate heart

right then and there, the Savior offered her a brand new start

so even though she should've been put to death by stones and rocks

what saved her life and soul that day,

was her sincere sacrifice from her precious Alabaster box
