Holiday Blues

One less chair, one less plate on the table
no sweep potato pie for dessert
no hugs or kisses for the grandchildren from grandma
It's the first Christmas without her here
there's not a lot of holiday cheer
no silent night being played on the piano
It was always our tradition to put up the tree
after filling up on mashed potatoes, gravy and turkey
the boxes are up and being unpacked
but the garland an lights shine a little less
there's no need to fret, we'll decorate like always
but in one aspect it's not the same
No black Friday shopping at 4 A.M.
few less presents being bought and wrapped
no more homemade cookies being baked with the grand kids
even the Christmas specials aren't cheering us up
It's like Scrooge and the Grinch moved in with us
Happy Holidays to you in Heaven
spending the holidays with others who have passed on
If you could, can you leave a present underneath the tree
wrapped in gold and silver paper
so we know it's from you
to help us get over these holiday blues

It is unfortunate that so many people get the blues during the holidays...and I do. We lose people and have an empty feeling when they are not there. Great poem!
Yes. I know a few people who have passed around and on Christmas day. My own grandma passed on Christmas night.
