HUNG OUT TO DRY

You wanted me to change the ending
As though a happier ending would pacify
It felt like you let the perpetrator off
And hung me out to dry

I only wanted some validation
For my voice to be heard
For once in my life, feel safe
As I expressed every feeling and word

But you rushed my story to end happy
Without really telling me, how?
How do you turn a tragedy
Into something beautiful, now?

I felt somehow, betrayed
As though you were pushing me out the door
Maybe I was the stronger one
And you couldn't take anymore

I wasn't ready to see the bright side
I was still working through the pain
I needed more time and understanding
Before I could see, what there was to gain

It took a lifetime of suffering
Before I ever reached your door
So please, have a little patience
That's all I'm asking for

I would love to change the story
And change the ending, too
But I need time to let the pain out
Before I can see your point of view
