Hush up, Honey

It happened at midnight
Walking home from work
When the street lights buzzedÂ
And I cried, hoping for death.
It happened at my best friend's pool party
When I was twelve years old
Being taught about my body
In broad daylight
It happened at home
Because my mom was just too weak
To fight him off anymore
So she gave in
It happened on Christmas night
After all the family time togetherÂ
She slipped into my bedroom
And made me promise to hush
It happened at school
On that Tuesday morning
And no one would believe me anyway
Because he's the teacherÂ
It happens every damn day
In homes, schools, and churchesÂ
When no amount of crying
Makes you less appealing to them
It will always happen
Because no one will step up
We are a silent majority
In this filthy world
You are left broken, beaten
In a pool of your own blood
Crying out for a savior
And they only have one thing to say
"Well, what were you wearing?"

Powerful write. Out of respect, not much to say. I am not innocent...but I have changed. No amount of abuse is excusable.
I appreciate your comment more than you know. Keep being better, and all is well. Thank you.Â
