I am Proud of being a Bengalee (3)

The then Hindu Society was full of sins and superstitions
Some great personalities came on for their eradication
Raja Ram Mohan Roy was the renowned social Reformer
Eradicated the ‘Sati Daha Pratha' from the society forever
The ‘Sati Daha’ was a cruel system, a superstition dire
Hindu widows were forced to sit atop in husband’s pyre
When drum beating, chanting went on with loud cheers
Along with the women’s dance and her near and dears
‘Koulinya Pratha’ another curse amongst the Brambhin
A girl was considered good luck to wed an old aged Kulin
Within a short time, she became a widow and untouchable
She was kept isolated, single, contemptible, and disable
Vidyasagar, an educationist one of the great Social Workers
Became successful to rescue victims and remove the curse
