I awoke this morning
I awoke this morning
looked up to a dreary sky
tree branches swayed in the wind
and droplets of water dripped down
from the bent leaves.
I awoke this morning
wondering if I would see the sun
hoping its warmth would make me smile
to share with another, anyone at all.
I awoke this morning
eager to meet a friend
with a spring in my step,
talk and feel alive
sharing and comparing.
I awoke this morning – thankful.
Yet when I lay me down to sleep
thoughts whirling in my head
fearful of the sleep
fearful of the dark so deep
fearful of not waking again
my body curled to ease its pain.
And slowly, unknowingly it comes…
sleep and dreams,
dreams dark, shrouded in a fog.
and yet….
I awoke this morning – thankful.
It rained and I was thankful
letting it wash all my fears away
then shed a tear, happy that I could.
thankful,
in dawns sweet bouquet.

Love it Alan needs more attention.
Thank you for the read and comment much appreciated, although "needs more attention" did confuse me a little however I am always open to all constructive positive and negative critique, neverthe less thanks again.
Sorry for the confusion mate, all I mean is that more poets need to see this. I enjoyed it a lot!
