I Had An Affair In The Summer Of Ninety-Five

I Had An Affair In The Summer Of Ninety-Five

In August of nineteen ninety-five, I decided to have an affair;
I made all of my secret phone calls, when my Linda was not there!
Those were the days before cell phones, so I dialed from our home;
But a few times, Linda heard me whispering, when I thought that I was alone!
.
We went out one night for dinner, to a Thai restaurant we’d often go;
We ordered a bottle of white wine, but as we drank, her mood seemed so low!
All at once she burst out crying, her heart exposed and bare;
Sobbing, “Larry, I know what you’re doing, you are having a sordid affair”!
.
I softly wrapped my arms round her, and swore that I truly “was not”;
I had to tell her a white lie, for I was in a really tough spot!
Because her important fiftieth birthday, was just in one more week;
And those phone calls I was making, were for a surprise party I seeked!
.
Fortunately, she believed in me, and was shocked when to it she came;
As thirty-five of our friends, screamed “Surprise”, and yelled out her name!
In this photo, I serenade her, with the song, “Happy Birthday, Sweet Sixteen”;
And about the affair I was having, no more happy could my Linda have been!
.
.
                                   A most secret tryst
                                An affair to remember
                                   Happy Fifty Love
