I Hit Broadway

I Hit Broadway

      Photograph is of the 1410 Building where I worked

In April of 1964, two months after my first wife and I had wed;
I got a job in NYC’s garment district, so off to New Jersey did we head!
I was working in the showroom, for the company, my father their leading rep;
“Queen Casuals”, at the 1410 Building, on Broadway, where all the cats were hep!
.
We took an apartment in Perth Amboy, close to some Uncles and some Aunts;
Each weekday, I took the bus to the Big Apple, an hour each way I spent!
I was supposed to learn the business, but I soon felt a total ennui;
Because for years, I had traveled with my father, adept at sales did I be!
.
But at lunch, I walked up to Times Square, just a couple blocks away;
To watch the cornucopia of people, that incited poems many days!
Finally, after five weeks, I knew that I had to leave;
Ohio was my place of passion, myself no longer deceived!
.
So we came home to my numismatics, I was a coin dealer once again;
Maybe I should have stayed in New York City, and have become a thespian!
To this day, I have always wondered, if I missed my casting call;
Possibly, I could have become famous, and been an actor, best of all!
.
.
                                   The garment district
                           Should have been the theatre
                                    I missed my calling

Hey, it's never too late is it, Larry? I mean, as long as you still have breath in your lungs all your dreams can be achieved, can't they?
This was a very good story in a poem piece. Being a fellow Ohioan, I too returned home and back to my roots after retiring and leaving New Jersey.
I haven't regretted my decision for a moment.
Nice writing!

Dear Dean,

Wow, Dean, we sure have similar roots, both living in and loving Ohio, plus, our New Jersey nexus.  I was born in Perth Amboy, and have lots of relatives scattered throughout the state.  Plus, one of my favorite places has always been the Atlantic City-Ventnor area, walking the boards, and hitting the beach.
Thank you for your so stimulating comment.

Peace and Love,

Hey, Larry.
I now reside in southeastern Ohio, right on the Ohio/Kentucky border, in Brown County.
I worked and lived in East Brunswick and South Plainfield, NJ, for five years.
I never made it to Atlantic City.

There is a great sense of freedom and wisdom that comes with having tasted ALL the possibilities of one's potential......a feeling that only comes with age and the understanding that you explored the cliché expression ~ " Jack Of All Trades".....it is something that most NEVER even attempt.....but in your case, I find a brother with whom a kinship will be forever embraced.....thanx for this my friend!!.....LOVE & ROCKETS!!.......T xo ???✴✴❤

Dear Tony,

Me too, Brother.
I can't wait for the day that us two "cosmopolites" meet.

Peace, Love, and Spaceships,
