I Read a Book About You

As I looked down this country road I was looking for your face
I drove until I could not drive any longer
I found a brilliant view under a willow tree next to a lake
I spread a soft fleece blanket upon the cool grass
Emptying out my book bag, I grabbed my book
See, I started to write about you so many times
Started a line, erased it, then started another
It was last summer when we fell in love
The passion cut deeper than your name carved into my heart
When I found your phone and I found her name
To die would have been easier then leaving you
Now I lay in the middle of no where and I am enjoying it
Bit by bit, inch by inch, squirmming in a bath of sin
Like the hungry frog, like the dragonfly caught by surprise
I too hunger for beauty, for the prince to kiss my lips so sweet
To take my arms around your neck, to lavish me in red roses
Pearls of oysters in a velvet box for me to wear
Forget me nots in a crystal glass, I read my book
I touch my breasts, I turn the page and you are there
In a mirror of waves floating in the lake
I slit my wrists with blood dripping stains
I too, now, float in red rippling lily pads next to you
Next to the very end, together I have written, you now have read
The book about you, the day of the accidental drowning with her
The very last page, as the grasshopper is eaten by the fish
So must I come to a lonesome tragic romance, a death wish
Let someone else read about us, that once loved, a Valentine. so. bitter sweet
