I Shall Not Lament for what I do Not Hold
The night laments
It cannot see the birds adorning the sky
like a feathery canvas,
can only envy the sun waking the children
to hear their laughter then spreading its ambers
The day laments
It cannot taste the sweet nectar of silence
nor be the confidant to amorous souls,
can only envy night’s ebony carpet
and the moon in her arms finding console
Man shall cherish what he has
and not envy what he does not hold,
his reward is a life one thousand brighter
and contentment for his ever-seeking soul.

Your choices for what the night laments are perfect. I absolutely love "feathery canvas" as a simile. And I really like how you segue into the day. Your choices for what the day laments are equally brilliant though I think you might mean confidant rather than confident. I love "ebony carpet" too. In all honesty your poem could end there but I'm so glad it didn't. The concluding lines are like a wake up call to humans. And having soul as the last word pleases this reader's soul.
You have the eye of an eagle! Thank you heaps Bernie. It was a typing mistake which I didn't notice even after reading it a few times. Bless you!
And I am over the moon with your analyses. Honoured, really.
Oh, Shirley sends you big hug and she misses you.
Aaw thank you Bernadette. Honestly I love commenting on your poems. They are so beautifully written.
And send a big hug to Shirley please. I miss her too.
This is beautiful and profound dear Bernadete 🌹
Thank you Shirley, you are a gem! You really are.
Finding contentment in the human soul is like holding water in one’s palms. Unfortunately difficult.
Well said!
You are right, John. I am aware that the majority of people out there are not contented and a great number
have hell as their home. There is little I can do. My pages are made of dreams, meaning that I am very fortunate. But I feel that I can help by writing beautiful words and offer, at least, a moment of beauty, a smile and a little pause to...just breathe. That's way I don't (or cannot) write sad poems. Its just not me.
Stay well John. Till next poem.
P.S I really like your writings. They make me think, and give me joy.
This proved itself to be a real treat of a poem to dwell on over breakfast, indeed, really lovely .. Neville
I am glad I contributed to your breakfast, if not with a feast at least with a treat.
Now, seriously, It feels great that you enjoyed it. We write also to bring a smile on one's face or
to make the end of a busy day so refreshing by reading each others poetry. I tell you this Neville, I am
so happy I joined Cosmo. Sharing our writings, receiving and sending reviews and comments have made
the whole process into a wonderful journey. I am not on the social media and I actually dislike it, but
Cosmo has been wonderful and I am totally enjoying the ride. Pfew!!! said & done! Till next poem. Be good.
I love this Bernadete, I love the way you have described day and night, dark and light as being opposites but equally as beautiful....for those who see with both eyes and experience it....with the third eye...hugs x
Thank you Marion, good to hear from you. I was thinking asking you how you were doing, but didn’t want to invade your privacy. I think you need some space from time to time. Many hugs & much love, B
P.S. Oh, the way you perceive my poem, is just spot on. It’s exactly how i feel it. You always understand my poems.
