IF I COULD ASK MY HEART

IF I COULD ASK MY HEART

If only I could tell my heart to stop beating

If I could tell my lungs, never breathe again

If I could, a thousand times I would

What would happen then?

There would be a peace I've never known

A joy that only comes in dying

All my life I've searched and longed for it

It hadn't been for my lack of trying

If only I could tell my heart to finally rest

And say; You've done all that you could do

My heart, I know would keep on working

Even though the rest of me was through

Maybe I'm just old and very tired

I've fought and lived to fight so many days

Don't listen to my heart that keeps on beating

My heart will only resist and try to delay

If only I could tell my heart to stop beating

If I could tell my lungs, never breath again

If I could, a thousand times, you know I would

What would happen then?

My misery and sorrow would finally end

My heart would give up and die

The world would give a little sigh

And maybe, perhaps wonder why?

So very powerful and yes extremely sad, but it's a reality for millions every day. Your emotions are truly raw. 🌹
