"I'm More Than This Disease!"

"I'm More Than This Disease!"

"I am more than this addiction,
much more than this disease,
so much more than this affliction,
that brought me to my knees!

Just one look into the center,
the center of my eyes,
and you will see winged creatures,
the birds that chart the skies!
Those soft spoken words said,
to a loved one, that last whispered goodbye,
as you caress their failing hands,
as they close their eyes to die.

I am more than this addiction,
much more than this disease,
so much more than this affliction,
that brought me to my knees!

If you could just see,
the inside of me,
there is so much more you would believe,
that we and this world could be!

Everyone with patient, caring, gentle hands,
that really took their time to listen,
and that understand,
that are ever grateful,
the best people to be!
Maybe that's too much for some,
maybe it's a crazy notion,
but I dream to make people believe!

So if you still think,
I am just this addiction,
that I'm just this godless disease,
just this horrible affliction,
that brought me to my knees,
I challenge you to look inside yourself,
and ask that,
to really look and see,
ask yourself,
'Am I anything more than this,
disease that lives in me?'"
