Imaginary Me

For once in my life I want somebody who wants to be with the real me
Not the me they created in their head
Not the me that they think I should be

The me who will forever have bandages across her soul and scars across her heart because of the things she has seen and heard
The me who would give up everything if that means I'm helping another human being
The me who's afraid to love because everyone she has ever cared for came back to haunt her in the end

But instead no one sees that part of me
They see a girl who lashes out at the world that constantly hurts her
They don't see the girl who smiles through the pain only the girl who cries in the rain

I can't be who you dreamed me to be
I'm not imaginary
I'm real
I'm me

most of us reflect our thoughts upon the one that we are smitten with; rarely do we see people as they are; and this poem speaks to that truth. I hope that the one you love eventually sees the true you.
