Sense of Hope

I look around all I see is the darkness

Feel the ghost of the demons I tried to bury so deep inside

Fighting to show the world their wrath

A wrath that’s been tamed for eight years to the count

Competing with the positive

Overbearing with the negative

Sneaking outside putting anger where it does not belong

Making it impossible to carry on

I took the road less traveled by

Still wondering if that did me any good

Close my eyes take a deep breath

Only to realize the walls are closing in on me

Those breaths getting steadily harder to take

The demons are winning

Strangling me from the inside

I’m beginning to blackout

Images of the past are bombarding me

Forcing me to relive moments I wish I could forget

The darkness

The fear

The anger and hatred

Begin to rise and bubble in my very core

That’s when it hits

I can beat this

Kill the demons that are killing me

Kill them with the only thing I know strong enough

Hope

With a thought the darkness begins to fade allowing light in once again

With a change of heart breath becomes easier to take

With a smile the demons let go of their hold and for the first time in years I’m free

That’s when I realized

Those demons

Those demons that made my life misery for so long

Were truly my only of sense of hope
