In Honor of Hieland Games

In Honor of Hieland Games

The first time was so exciting
The anticipation of a decade barely contained
Arriving at the field with no expectations
Only wishing to experience the battle

Competitors abound with verve
Chatty, reserved, experienced, and neophytes
Nine events to test strength, stamina, and fortitude
Women and men testing themselves in competition

Stones to emulate a weaponless era
Weights sail distances to find a long forgotten enemy
Hammers fly, sheafs are flung
Cabers, once carried in war, turn and crash

Heavy and light, old and young
A day spent in camaraderie and opposition
Celebrating Hieland tradition
Healing what history tried to erase

The last time will come, age taking its toll
Each clash recorded for eternity
Celebrants will honor those before
And those who will continue the legacy
