Innocent Question

Innocent Question

A question asked in innocence

can make a mother sigh and wince

"how many children do you have?"

heart skips a beat with words that stab

<b>

a deep breath taken, then a spoken "three"

even though there are two left with me

"my son is no longer here with us"

then a silent pause screams above the hush

<b>

"it's okay", i finally say out loud

"my son is with Christ above the clouds

his presence I do greatly miss

to hold and hug and share a kiss

<b>

things here on earth are rarely fair

we don't understand the man upstairs

but his promises made so long ago

stand firm today, you have to know

<b>

Gods children are here on borrowed time

and my son's job was done before mine

i guess i have more work to do

before i'm called home, to heaven too"

<b>

an apology is often said

for the loss of my son, but he's not dead

his earthly body is here no more

but he's alive at heavens door

<b>

waiting there for his mothers embrace

with tears of joy as I kiss his face

welcome home, i hear him say

i told you it wouldn't be long for this day

<b>

i never left you, i'm sure you felt

each tug of heart that made you melt

a whispered prayer upon the wind

would strengthen you and eventually mend

<b>

our secret visits in dreams at night

brought moments of joy and pure delight

those times with you, were also for me

I did not forget you, I wanted you to see

<b>

i know my son, i felt your love

to give me strength, sent from above

you have kept me going, day to day

fighting the desire to simply fade away

<b>

thank you for never leaving my side

for not letting me sink from life, to hide

but pushing me forward with a gentle nudge

when i was stubborn and would not budge

<b>

now lets get busy and start work again

the time is near when all will end

your sisters are coming, and bubba too

they've missed you terribly, but I guess you knew

<b>

my family will be whole and complete

when heavens gate opens for all us to meet

and be together for the rest of time

in Gods glory, these beautiful children of mine

<b>

a simple question asked to me

brings back tons of memories

a forward flash only I can see

I proudly state the answer THREE!
