Inspiration

They say write about what you know
Just get started and let the words flow
And have no doubt
As ideas pour out
Your work will begin to grow.
 
I’m not quite sure this is true
Well, maybe it is for you
But not for me
Nothing’s free
I struggle with all that I do.
 
My ideas are not very good
I would do better if only I could
But my poems stink
And who cares what I think
I’m not sure that even I should.
  
Maybe I should change my perspective
And come up with a new objective
Assume it’s required
To be inspired
Perhaps that would be more effective.
 
I should not even begin to write
Unless the subject’s exactly right
One that speaks to me
And won’t let me be
Until I create with all my might.
