It was all skipping of heart beats when I met you
Words that fell, words that froze, all genuine
“I love all your perfect imperfections” I said
You made for me a throne in your heart
I ruled your heart and thought I ruled you
I set for you rules in the space you welcomed me into
Constantly blotting the brilliance that shone on my path
Severally lacerating your healing wounds with my knife of jealousy
I break your skin, send blood oozing, leaving it with scars
“I love you” I say always; I mean every bit of that expression
……but I can’t stop hitting you
You say you will leave; I cry and apologize; you stay; I hit you again
I have an addiction; an obsession—with your love
I want to own you because you are all I wanted
I want to have you to myself
You tell me love is freedom—I shouldn’t clamp your wings
I should allow you to fly free to the end of the world
What if you are caught in a trap?
The root of the violence you suffer is the fear I have for my fear
Wanting to tame you, fearing you will run wild
Those gorgeous eyes of yours, I almost gouged out
 I can’t be sorry enough; taking away your graceful gait
Of my violence, I have no control
Quenching the life in you has become my paranoia
