Isabeau

Isabeau

She tried a few times within seeming rhymes
Drunk with secrets of a thousand minds

She was Isabeau, he her cursed Navarre

With his eyes of a wolf, traversing the dark

She was not unsuspicious, with eyes of a hawke

Soaring through sunlight but up late to watch

Her love in his clothing of soft undercoat

That protects him from cold when it gnaws at his throat

His promise of closeness and warmth as their fuel

They could live by their glow when the winter's too cruel

But a wolf is a wolf, he knows nothing else

He offers you fruit to strengthen your health

It's exotic and bright, like his shadowy eyes

But it's slick with venom when you lift it to light

It may look ripe and fine, it may smell bittersweet

But it's juices will sicken and render you weak

Lady, how can you trust or keep a beast

So alluring, wily, and keen to feast?

He salivates as you fall to your knees

Sin is his rapture, and sin is his peace

Ladyhawke, you had already sensed

But blinded by beauty, you perched on your fence

He tasted your daylight, it settled his head

So he led you in darkness, right into his den

Wolves consume light, as they're taught to do

You empowered him as he withered you

It's a story to hold, but not too tight

Don't linger at dusk or explore in the night

They shall never join hands, but she's no longer grieved

They weren't star-crossed, they were only deceived
