It Is Killing Me

Every minute I am shaken, by the words in my head, by the things around me
I find myself in a shadow, not knowing the light, only the darkest of darkness
It is killing me, inside, my veins are swelling, my heart is enlarging, and it is not of love
It is the death of my mother, my father, my brother, and soon, it will be another
I have been in this world, a long time, and a short time, only bewildered, I can not see
The light has blinded my every prayer, but I hold on to what makes me pure
I find my red skin, has caused many a shame, though it has never taken my people that way
We live in this land, we have nourished the earth, we have given birth, to this nation
Although these things seem to have been forgotten, lost in time, lost in battle
It is killing me not to know, that we have another chance, another moment in time
To make a difference, I am only one man, I am only one soul, and I am only standing ever so long
Until the time comes when my brothers before me, take this blood, and give it to another
Where we can be as one, not broken, not chosen, not crippled with the thought of discrimination
To be appreciated, for the color of our skin, of the native style of our ways, of the brilliance of our skill
It only kills me to think, that this does not matter, the more that I believe, the more that I have faith
The future, will be stronger, it will see me in a different light, some day, it will see my people for what they truly are
And my heart will be mended, it will heal, from the spirits of the sky, and I shall survive this wound inside
As it is killing me, it is healing me
