Jimmy, 9/11 Survivor (kinda)

Jimmy, 9/11 Survivor (kinda)

It was a few days after the 9/11 attack (2001),
          when I ran into my Queens NY neighbors,
          Jill and Jimmy at the corner bodega.
          I frequently ran into them there.

Jimmy,  a custodian,
          worked in a building two
          blocks from the Towers.

He told me on top of his building
          were airplane seats,  airplane parts
          and body parts as well.

From on top of our apartment building
          smoke from the attack could be
          seen and smelled for weeks.

Two weeks after the attack,
          I ran into Jill at the bodega,
          and she looked like hell.
           “Hi Jill.  Where is Jimmy?”

“You haven’t heard?
          Jimmy is dead!
          He died of a heart attack!"

I gave her a hug and condolences.
           Imagine that,
           surviving a  9/11 attack
           only to die 10 days later.

If I had a choice of dying,
          I would choose the terrorist attack,
          it gives family and friends
          a better story.

Victims always get more sympathy.

Hi JCG,

I give Jimmy all my sympathy, because he's a victim too;
From the horror of all that evil, and what it's aftermath can do!
Ten days or ten years later, time is irrelevant;
The harbinger of an early demise, that affected the innocent!

Peace and Love,
Larry xxx

Jimmy was a good guy -  so ironic he died 10 days after the horrific attack on the Towers....as the Moody Blues sing...."isn't life strange?"
