Kiss My Assonance!

Kiss My Assonance!

lines written on reading Stephen Fry’s The Ode Less Travelled

If assonance is asinine
And who could argue with that line?
Allow me give a sample rhyme
So you can kiss this ass o’ mine.

If consonance is asinine
And who would argue? No-one. None!
I'll offer yet another one
And you can kiss this ass o’ mine.

Substitution’s asinine
Throw in a trochee for iamb
But you can kiss this ass o’ mine
Because at least I don’t enjamb

-ment seems to be all you’ve got left
when thought cannot keep in the line
of verse. But here’s a subtle shift,
So you can kiss this ass o’ mine.

Acrostics all are asinine
So why continue in this vein
Subjecting every line to strain
O’ please just kiss this ass o’ mine.

Meters fleeter than a mist
In dancing dactyls, pyrrhics, rimes
Need not resemble pointless crimes
Enveloping the line like this . . .

Sounds musical...Sang it out loud while reading it...Enjoyed every word in every live...This is a masterpiece J...Well done!

Thank you, Rose.

Poetry is, and always has been, written to be spoken aloud...performed even! Reading it under your breath in a quiet, dusty library is just a waste of the poet's time and effort!!

My Dear Friend, Jason,

Roses are red

Violets are blue

No more hackneyed rhyme

So kiss this ass o' mine

I'll stick to blank verse:

Assonance abandoned

If you don't like my cadence or time

You can kiss this ass o' mine

That's all I have to say

I'm going to write a play

It's called "Asses of Assisi"

Forgive me Saint Francis

Peace and Love,

Larry xxx

If blank verse is the way you want to go
Though difficult to see what will betide
I wish you well; because, as we all know,
Pegasus is an awful assΒ to ride!!

your friend & fan,

J ;)
