Lady Salsa

Lady Salsa
Sways her hips
Inches away from my fingertips
Feet moving to a Latin beat
She looks at me
Our eyes meet
She comes up close
Feel so hot I need a water hose
Her head held high
Looks me in the eye
As if saying
“No can do if you don’t try”
My head is spinning round and round
Her body writhing to the Salsa sound
Quick-quick-quick-tap, quick, quick, slow
The heat’s enough to melt the snow
She takes my hand
I’m so nervous I can hardly stand
1,2,3 or 5,6,7
Soon I’m in a Salsa heaven
As she rocks and rolls
Spinning like a top on her suede shoe soles
I hear her say
“Come on! We can shine!”
Just as the flame of the candle
In its brightly coloured glass holder
Flickers for the final time
To rapturous applause
Woken from my reverie
I hear Harry
Thanking everyone for coming
Hoping to see us all again
At next month’s
“The Stanza”
