Lamentations of a queen - part two

Lamentations of a queen - part two

What has thou done, have i offended thee
within four walls i am bound not free
i hear the scaffold being wrought for me
stricken from the world, i am to be
My lord ! so long i waited for youΒ
years of work and wading through
the blood of idolatry and abuse
the church you reformed for us two
My fierceness offends you sir, it has now been said
my ideas and influence have made you dread
even visiting my bed
what notions are these that have gone into your head
What pardon sir !, what mercy i seek!
I admit i have not always been obedient or meek
Though my future now , is somewhat bleak
I do venture sir, a peek
At your mind and how i have been accused
By what manner can i have abused
With my body? I protest! i am ill used
my innocence and virtue
cannot be contended in this life nor the next
by my manner you have been most vexed
sir ! please show mercy , have pity on elizabeth
whose young mind must be soundly perplexed
My lord, my prince, my dreadlord
I apologise if i committed acts you abhor
but pray ! what changed, you did not mind before
You told me i was what you had been waiting for
Though babes by you did come and go
you blamed me for their departed souls
A son i could have borne and made our union whole
But you have abandoned me, to my woe
I can hear the drums calling me, a forewarn
It is time for me to be part of the act never done before
I will look to the sky, feel the breeze, taste your lips no more
but my innocent blood will haunt you forevermoreΒ

Forgotten Poetry

Hmmm not sure whether to take that as a compliment or not. Satirical genius he may have been, but was very very inclined to tell tall tales :)Β

Nigel Cresswell...

Fantastic, and while I know that Shakespeare was a Tudor propagandist the flow and the Tudor (educated) language deserve the comparison. Really great write and one of my favourite historical periods.Β

I look forward to reading the next piece. Have you read C.J. Samsons Shardlake series?
