Poem -

Last Mistake

Sleeping... Lights go by.
Sleeping... Lights go by.

Awake... No lights in sight!

Radio blasting and the windows down.
Seems like everything is spinning around.
It's two in the morning and just leaving town

Pals in the front seat ride...
A non-forgotten day.

Tomorrow's celebration of the school year weigh
Upon a traveled path now in play.

I stand beside a bright cloth-covered gurney
Body under sheet, unexpected journey.

Life, not long...
Graduating...
Celebrating, the first ceremony.

New town, fun girls,
Seeking...
On the run, late night, quick fun,
Shooting your balls by sliding your cue.
New ways ahead and the days unread
Long days sleeping and short night curfews said.

I stand beside a bright sheathed gurney
Folding back the cloth that covers your ending journey.
I see my past and your present mummy,
With dried blood, shards of glass,
Peppered like a shotgun blast.
Bruises from the impact and bones snapped
The very moment "HE" spoke
Ending your progress
And the process of healing-time broke.

I see my past and your present mummy.

Their eyelids were heavy,
The heater on high and the fan blowing steady.
Radio blasting and the windows down,
It's two in the morning and just leaving town.
Seems like everything is spinning around.

AWAKE....Ahead, no lights in sight.

Sleeping....Lights go by.

AWAKE....So late, no lights in sight.

Sleeping....Lights go by, but brighter and ready.

AWAKE....To your brightest light

...Finished life.
