Lenore, Revisited

Lenore, Revisited

O'er satin veil, horizon's mists, it sat there, unabashed–
whilst light seeped in, yon sunlight kissed black eyes, so darkly vast.
Awakening from slumber deep, I fought an urge to bolt;
it eyed me while immersed in sleep and gave me quite a jolt!

“Dire raven, no Lenore lies here–she's now no more than dust...”
Yet, on it stared, oh, I was scared and it, I did not trust.
“Away, you wretched creature–go–now join the vaunted murder;
I've nothing for thee anyhow, I'll deal with thee no further!"

“Oh, harbinger of sorrow, thy presence darkens up my room.
Begone—do not the morrow come–thou fills my life with gloom.”

Tho' Raven never wavered, I could only help but wonder,
my misery, does it savor, as it rent my world asunder?

Its eyes–an ebony onyx, deep–rolled back into its head.
He made no sound, nay, not a peep, as he flew upon my bed.
“Why does't thou torment me so?,I'm a man, and nothing more?
I know thy creed now, please, just go!"
–when, from my grasp, he tore–

A crumpled parchment, in quivering hand, grasped betwixt my fist,
written whilst I slumbered–my quill the sandman surely kissed.
'Lenore, Revisited' 'twas all it said; the raven turned to go,
taking flight atop my bed, he cawed a note–so low...

“Nevermore”.
..I swore it said, as I arose from off my bed.
When, on yon windowsill I spied, so shriveled, dried and dead...
a single rose, black, turned to dust–fresh dirt upon the floor,
my senses froze, for scrawled in dirt, the single word... “Lenore”

Very nice,

I think the spirit of Edgar would like it too.

Thank you very much for taking time to read and comment, Ron!
Glad you enjoyed this.
I'm answering my comments from the bottom up from now on. It seems I've left some readers and reviewers out by going from first to last...somehow.
I'm still relatively new here so I'm bound to make mistakes and miss something.
Thanks again for reading!
Much obliged,
