Poem -

Lilly

Arid Lilly
Sand mermaid
A stronger beauty was never made
She was a storm in a teacup
She had no tribe
And thorn in her side
Her mood could change like the tide
Broken men, hadn't broken her in
She was wilder than before
Snow White, became the queen
Like a sapling grows into a twisted tree
Her heart grows mean
Bullies feasted on her weakness
Mistaking kindness for weakness
Quietness for compliance
They thought her ten yard stare meant, she wasn't all there.
She was thinking outside the square
Her imagination and empathy were boundless, her energy was not
A fae among demons
A bird among the cats
Misunderstood, she withstood all she could
While she was still alive, she learned to survive
In soil a Lilly isn't meant to thrive...
The desert sand mermaid, that swims in hundred year rains
Her heart is black, but it still remains
