Poem -

Listen.

There are story's in the lines on my face,
and I'm walking at a slower pace,
the scars of my youth,
when opened, will show you obvious truth,
it takes time to truly love,
I think I do, kind of,
life is pushing me forwards,
its only understood backwards,
friendly ghosts wait in the shadows,
someday I'll join them, who knows,
I'm in the maze of unknowing,
but I can hear her surely sing.

I asked the Holy Father,
is it much further,
I don't want to die lonely,
I'm on bended knee,
he won't return my call,
its another day in the brawl,
but I hear him in the breeze,
jangling the Pearly Gates keys,
dead ends are within the maze of unknowing,
but in its mystery, I can still clearly hear her sing.

My bones are wrapped in depreciation,
my existence is subjected to Earthly probation,
I was born to a woman who desired freedom,
who epitomized Lilith, before the Garden of Eden,
feminine purity vilified by the fragile ego of man,
the divine hand wrote a sinister plan,
the fountain of life is hidden within the maze of unknowing,
over the sound of its flowing, I hear her proudly sing.

You can say unkind things about me behind my back,
don't act surprised when, face to face,
I attack, I'm sorry you can't find meaning in your life,
try using a paintbrush, instead of a carving knife,
I'm stood above the clouds, feeling them pour,
I don't seek revenge, fate will settle a score,
I walk humbly in the maze of unknowing,
she reaches for my hand, and continues to sing.

You could say that I've become complacent,
within the maze, are roses, full of rejuvenating scent,
the rich have everything they want,
of their material possessions, I'm quite nonchalant,
but these things cannot be taken to the other side,
when judgement knocks, we cannot run and hide,
I walk meekly in the maze of unknowing,
but she holds me tightly, while she strongly sings.

I see jealously and heartache all around me,
a simple act of humility will set them free,
I learned all about unconditional love from her,
I'm still learning, I don't pretend to be a connoisseur,
doors have closed, bridges burned and fires not put out,
for the deserving, there is love, without a doubt,
I step lightly into the maze of unknowing,
swaying with her and she gently sings her song.

At some point, we will all have to move on,
leaving only memories and stories when we are gone,
it won't be today, perhaps sometime tomorrow,
old friends will be waiting in the shadows,
not too soon, I hope and pray,
life has meaning in the wilderness of mystery,
I step deliberately into the maze of unknowing,
listening to her assured voice, I smile when she sings.

Yeah, there're story's in the lines on my face,
and I do walk at a slower pace,
there are scars from my youth,
when opened, will show you the plain truth,
it takes time to truly love,
I think I do, kind of,
life will push you forwards,
only being understood backwards,
friendly ghosts still wait in the shadows,
someday I'll join them, only God knows,
I'm in the maze of unknowing, but I can hear her, reassuringly sing.
