Locket

Locket

I wake

I see nothing

I know nothing

I feel nothing

I taste nothing

I smell nothing

I am nothing

I

do not know

who

I

am

Then

I see

the locket

A light

The only sign of life

Almost in my grasp

The key

to my past

to my memories

I grab it

The gold glinting

Wrenching it open

A picture

A family

A moment

Frozen in time

is that me?

Click

I remember

I see

Like a river

Flooding my brain

I relish it

the moment

Delicious

I’m hungry

for

more

Everything

is clear

I remember

My life

My life

So fast

It snaps shut

My savior

who turned away

Now I’m back

In the sea of darkness

The memories leave

I have been drained of all life

I claw, I fight

not for air

but for the memories

I can’t see

I can’t feel

I can’t sense

I can’t smell

I can’t taste

I can’t remember

I am nothing

I do not know

who

I

am
