A LONG LOST FRIEND

A LONG LOST FRIEND

I mourn for my friend confidence

She left me years ago

Along with precious self respect

Someone I used to know

They packed their bags and wandered out

I should have made them stay

Fought for their right to be

But sent them on their way

Made a choice I never should have done

Put them second to a love

Didn’t care for ‘future’ happiness

Or all of the above

I spent my life so blinkered

Believed the future to be bright

Knew what I was doing

But this was never to be right

For love is not embracing

When it doesn’t hug your mind

Encourage and adore you

Imperfections it will find

Your faults and your wrongdoings

Echo  “God damn pull your weight!

Where did I really go so wrong?

It makes me so irate

Feel just like a loser

Find myself inside a hole

How could I let it go so far

Play up this stupid role

Well no more will I be privy

No more will I bow down

I will lift this heavy weight from me

Smile instead of frown

Forever will I be here

In a place I should have stayed

Remain with my friend confidence

Walk away from this charade .........
