LOVE
There was something they never told me
How love can tear you apart
How it takes all the strength you have
To heal a broken heart
I couldn't show up
Or take a chance
I didn't have the courage
For love or romance
It takes solid human beings
To lose themselves to love
To be intimate, vulnerable
All of the above
I kept my heart so guarded
Closed off from the world
I couldn't take the chance of breaking
I became a rose, tightly furled
The pain of holding passion
In a heart, too afraid to love
Love was something out of reach
Something I only dreamed of
