Love Is Dead

Love Is Dead

Heed my tale of unfortunate grief,
For I take it to the grave,
For love is a distant memory,
It’s monogamous oath my slave.

For loving becomes repentant,
And muddies the naive soul,
For its now a solitary garden,
Within my feet will stroll.Β

In absent fear of comfort,
An overbearing normality lay,
A defence of steel consuming,
These emotions no longer play.

The first captivates your heart,
A longing of company blessed,
Each and every memory,
To your lovers ear confessed.

The second lost its freedom,
Like an animal to a cage,
But the longing continues,
And the fears of loneliness rage.

The third and forth forgotten,
The aloof tide of love has passed,
For another year of discomfort,
Of absent love forecast.

For no more will I falter,
No longer this heart misled,Β
No more mistaken promises,
From here onwards love is dead.

Wow LUCY!!...I haven't read you for a while so I was a little surprised by the VERY powerful phrasing and the sad tone that is so beautifully delivered here!!......somehow you ALWAYS seem to catch me off guard with your stuff (smiles).......I think anyone who reads this will be able to relate to it......I feel for you dear poet sister......it's definitely a tricky thing trying to walk that thin line between Love & Hate!!......but for me when you find someone that you know you will open yourself to potential pain and grief over......it's worth the risk because to love deeply....if only for a short while.....is to drink of the BEST elixir life has to offer....and if you're REALLY lucky....a lifetime of happiness.....of course, it doesn't happen for most.......so again, for me, it's worth the risk because when it's there......it's MAGIC!!.......sorry for rambling on girlfriend...I guess I needed to!!......smiles!!Β  ????β™₯β™₯β™₯β™₯...ALL STARS!!.....well done!!.....LOVE & ROCKETS!!.......T xo

Hello Lucy...

Sometimes, I wonder if it's actually better at 80?

Jerks don't have that much longer to live, maybe people actually learn something by then we can always have hope right?

Great write!

Thank you for sharing...

Hugs...

A good abcb rhyme scheme coupled with a dash of metaphorical phrasing and some good end rhyme made this poetic proclamation portraying the pure pain of unrequited or lost love a delight to read, Lucy.
Besides, I couldn't agree more with the context and sentiments so succinctlyΒ  expressed here than if I'd written it myself.
Keep those creative candles burning.
