Love's Retreating Tide

Love's Retreating Tide

She is a happy, happy bride
Who welcomes in her wedding day
As happy ever after rides
On love's advancing waves.ย

And how those waves come crashing in;
Come crashing, rolling to the shore,ย
Euphoric on the angel's wings
That promise love and more.ย

Oh, how she loved with love so rare!ย
She danced upon the golden sand,ย
Where gentle waves kissed ankles, bare,ย
In love's own promised land.ย

But love can scar and love can burn;
It is as weak as it is strong
And like the tide a love can turn
To find its voice has gone.ย

She was a happy, happy brideย
With smile as bright as sunshine's gleam,ย
But happy ever after rides
On such a fragile dream.ย

And how those dreams fell crashing in;
Fell crashing, smashing to the floor
All fallen from the angel's wings
Left bruised and, oh, so sore.ย

Struck down by fate's ungainly hand,ย
This one time happy, happy bride
Left stranded, now, on lonely sands
By love's retreating tide.ย

My Dear Tina,

Your beautiful poem flows to and fro gently, like the calming tide of the sea
Your rhyme scheme is crafted so perfect, quite impeccably
The reader gets lost in the depth of your plot, hanging on every line
Few writers can emulate that which you pen, your creations so very sublime

All my love,
Larry xxx

You have to acknowledge what you can " re-gain " as well as how to find " escape " ! Do you not ?
LET LOVE LEADETH THE WAY. For, the sake of HUMANITY. And, ALL that gives you. Right.
Be led to the " Promised Land " by a helping-hand, fulfilling need in " The Darkest Hour " when so much is " TORCHED " !! Beyond recognition. Feel the heat of passion delivering more, through messages derived from " COUNTING YOUR BLESSINGS. "
Thanks for sharing.ย ย xย

Hi Richard. I agree with you...we should let love lead the way ...love is what humanity needs? Without it we are nothing...well, very little. And one important thing we must always do, yet unfortunately we often fail to do enough, is to remember to count our blessings. Your comment is so true. I am glad you like the poem and I thank you for reading it and for leaving such a thought provoking comment ? Thank you x

This is so Ella Wheeler Wilcox in what you have written!
Telling and weaving threads of poetry magical gold.
A great message and end stanza that captivated me.
And the great and sadly missed Ella Wheeler Wilcox is my favourite poet and my greatest friend in time.
Your enthralling and heart breaking poem mirrors her great and cherished writing skill.
Just when you think poetry can't get any better...it magically and magnificently does.
I'm a happy poetry bunny discovering this and thank you Tina for writing and sharing.ย ย ย

Wow, Shaun, what a compliment!!ย  Ella Wheeler Wilcox is a truly beautiful poet. I have to confess though, I just googled her name when I read your comment. I had to read a few of her poems then, as you do,ย  and yes, wow, she is indeed a beautiful, beautiful poet. I will be reading loads more of her work later...wow! Your comment is very gracious and I cannot thank you enough. You have made my day, my friend x

Donโ€™t be silly, itโ€™s no big deal, itโ€™s not like Iโ€™ve been holding my breath.. if I had, it would be a whole different matter, in fact, I would probably not be here at all, so no worries on that score x
