Lucky

Lucky

It happened.
finally.
only yesterday I realised why

Fires burned day and night
a day at the cinema changed my life
we came home that day to a shell of a place
possessions lost – distraught, defaced.

The rest of the war spent in another’s arms
outside London on a bourgeois farm.
but where to now – a Southern Hemisphere yard?
where brown grass turns green
where drought turns into storm
and summer’s sun becomes an evening’s morn’.

Lucky.
always stay one step ahead –
drawing a saviour’s smile from that underground bed.

Lucky.
the word that describes my ideal.
from over there to this place of sun filled with sand
this is my home, my true love
this is my new-found land...

Where I give what I can to the woman I love
and wish my new land a peace – a peace I can share,
high in the sky on the wings of a dove.
