LURE OF THE DARK

Seems Iβm stumped. stymiedΒ
Word fumble from my lips
Inane mumblings tumble from my mouth
Dribble from my chin
And stain my cardigan,Β
Like an old man with his gruel
My brain bounces thought to thought
Dancing over the dark crevasses.Β
In search of light happy landings
Fear of falling keeps me moving
As if staring into the eyes of a snakeΒ
Iβm drawn by what I fear.
βWhy do you write so darklyβ?
Perhaps itβs a need to ease the pressure,Β
Perhaps to me the tortured souls sings the sweetest.
In joy I am often wordless
Too jubilant to spend time in explanation or exploration
Itβs the lure of the crevassesΒ
Their sweet song of the dark begs me pauseΒ
βLet your soul bemoan itβs fate
Let your heart lament its crippled existenceΒ
and words flow renewedβ
Seems the dance is not over,Β
Only a pause between songs
Another record drops to the turntable and spinsΒ
Β
And we dry on the cardigan
Grey memories of lost thoughts.....

Perhaps to me the tortured souls sings the sweetest." ... I've gotta admit, John. I've had this very same question directed my way more than once or twice.
Who knows why? We just do.
Good writing, very dark.
I enjoy lingering in the shadows myself. It's much cooler there...

If we donβt write to what we feel weβre Not being honest
poetry without honesty is quickly exposed

A Poet's Β soul is often stretched, abused worn and sometimes torn, but in the darkness we all are searching foe the same message. Occasionally we find ourselves following in the steps of a brother or sister poet and occasionally we blaze new trails. I for one would have it no other way.
I find that writing within the darkness makes it easier to see the light. Great piece John.
I couldn't agree more, John.
Thank you for taking an interest in my work.

Thanks Gerard in the dark I often have a difficult time discerning between The Light and just the fire of my passion
