Manifest Destiny

Sacred fields of tall grass,

Pass me by as I travel fast,

Smooth stones pile high,

Across this wayward path,

My mind melts,

Seeping from my ears,

Pooling in the pavement like a puddle,

Splash,

The faceless men stand all along this track,

Their bony hands reaching for where I stand,

PLEASE TAKE ME!

I plead,

My legs to tired for another lap,

A child's cry,

A mothers gasp,

I hear them scream my name,

Dangling the prize for all to see,

JUST ONE MORE LAP!

They snicker and tease,

As I pull my broken body,

Praying this to be the last,

Along Americas racetrack.
